Can MiX16 send to Sonos speakers?

Wanted to see if MiX16 iPad can send to Sonos wireless speakers.  Would be great to have remote placement of sound effects speakers on stage without having to run all the wires.

I already answered you via support ticket: you can not. We decided to leave existing audio engine (which does not support AirPlay) for other more important reasons. Sorry. But note that AirPlay has around 2 seconds audio lag and in real-time shows it is almost useless. Bluetooth is a different story, it is supported in iMiX16 and has no lag. Well yes, the distance between iPad and speakers becomes much shorter using BT than AirPlay.

But maybe to explain more: streaming audio to AirPlay supported devices is different than screen mirroring using Apple TV. So my last answer from 4 years is wrong! iMiX16 apps for iPad never supported AirPlay.

Hi, now, 4 years later. How can I playback audio with iMix16 Pro from my iPad Pro via airplay to my Bose 650?

I can’t say for sure, because we all need to get AirPlay 2 from Apple first, but if core system will not change then it should work without changes in the app. You can already use many apps including iMiX16 with Apple TV streaming audio and video via AirPlay.

So, is the answer, yes, Mix16 will support it if the speakers support AirPlay?

Hi,

oh sorry i missed this.
Now explains it why their app is needed, because their speakers are not supporting Apple AirPlay protocol (https://www.sonos.com/en/airplay).

iOS does stream audio over wifi but speakers supporting AirPlay or AirPlay 2 must be connected to the same wifi.

According to one article from the internet:

There is already a long list of well-established hi-fi manufacturers signed up to AirPlay 2. Naim, Bose, Bang & Olufsen, Devialet, Dynaudio, Bowers & Wilkins, Bluesound, Libratone, Denon and the Apple-owned Beats were all name-dropped at WWDC.

So i suggest you find a speaker which supports AirPlay 2 and consult with them if you can connect multiple at once.

Sonos is not over bluetooth, they are wifi.  As I mentioned, the speakers are not for the actors, but for spot sound effects on stage (such as doorbell sounds, wind sounds coming from a window, etc.  It is a very small community theatre, so stage is not that big.  65 person auditorium up close to stage.

I think the problem is because you can not connect multiple bluetooth speakers to one iOS device. You can only connect one.

I checked at Sonos you can have two speakers connected (to get stereo sound) but only within Sonos app.

I also read at Apple's that new HomePod speaker will be able to find second one (again to get stereo sound) by itself without any apps.

But i don't know if these speakers are powerful enough to get the necessary sound quality on stage required in a live show.

I am using Bose SoundLink Mini for a short performance in a smaller place (not on stage) and sound is great, but again - i am not using it on stage.
