First 10ms of sound file playback cutoff/faded in

Hi, I'm using "iMix16 Band", works great, BUT -- the first 10ms or so of a soundfile will always "fade in" or not play at all, requiring me to add ~10ms of silence to sound files. It's a workaround, but it adds even more latency to my setup, which is MIDI triggered as it is so even more latency!

For example, a soundfile starting with a transient like a bass kick drum -- you will not hear the attack if the soundfile starts with the kick drum. If it's after a 10ms delay, it kicks.

Is iMix adding a fade-in to playback start to avoid pops or something like that? Any chance we can turn that off?

Thanks, Stuart

Hi,

app does not add any fade in to avoid popus. Do you get the same result if you play just one audio channel (drums track) or this happens only when playing groups?

Hi,

I don't use groups; this happens on individual audio tracks.

Here's example files to reproduce the issue. The first starts right on a transient; the second is padded with 10ms silence at the start. Load each into an audio track.

http://files.popejoy.org/public/kicks-no-silence.wav - notice how the first kick goes "woof"

http://files.popejoy.org/public/kicks-10ms-silence.wav - the first kick attacks properly. Even here it's a hair less attack than the kicks that follow.

I have run a few tests and yes first kick goes "woof" if no silence is added. But now just inside my app, default iPad player acts the same. I also tried it with Twisted Wave (iPad audio editor) where it plays ok. Finally i tried it with the latest audio engine i am using in my apps and it also works ok. Which means i will update audio engine as soon as possible.

Great, looking forward to the update. Thanks, Stuart
