What kind of USB DMX is compatible with lighting?

Hello. I find your app incredible simple and functional.

I want to use it to control lights as well

What  kind of hardware should I look for? I am using the MCbook Pro 15 in mid 2015

Thanks

Hi,

USB DMX devices are not yet supported.

You need for example:

  • DMX controller ENTTEC ODE MK2
  • WiFi router with DHCP ON (no internet connection needed, just connect ENTTEC ODE MK2 to router via LAN cable and Mac via LAN cable or via WiFi)

Hi,
I would like to know if it is possible to connect the MacBook directly to the DMX box via RJ45 Ethernet, or if it is absolutely necessary to use a router?
Thanks

Eric

Hi,

yes can connect it directly via ethernet cable, but you need to set the right network configuration since there’s no router or DHCP server in between.

ENTTEC ODE MK3 defaults to:
IP Address: 192.168.0.10
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

On your Mac:
Go to your network adapter settings (System Preferences > Network).
Set a manual/static IP in the same range, e.g.
IP Address: 192.168.0.100
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: leave blank (or 192.168.0.1, but not required).
Save and reconnect.

Hi
Do you think you will be able to support USB DMX Device in the near future?
I am considering which interface to purchase.

Eric

No plans for now, but you never know. Ethernet controllers work out of the box, no drivers required and in most cases no setup required. We are using them 10+ years and have never failed.

Your link does not connect to the device recommended.

https://www.enttec.com/product/controls/dmx-ethernet-lighting-control/ethernet-dmx-interface/

This is the updated link.  Can you confirm that this is a compatible device, as mix16 Pro is not listed as a compatible software with there interface?  Is there other devices that are compatible with mix16 Pro?

Thanks,

Michel

Hi,

yes this is correct device.
Link updated, thank you.

Hello Eric
I confirm that the ENTTEC ODE MK2 is a great tool; I use it since years and it works fine and it is easily configurable !! a good tool to go !!
I also have other interfaces for bigger jobs and when more DMX-Universes are needed...
the Work-LightShark Nodes are great tools and still not too expensive; its under 400 bucks for the "LS-1 Node4" ; and it has many many features as POE, RDM, sACN, can act as a Merger (HTP and/or LTP) and is freely configurable as Input or Output for any universe etc etc ..

Hi Zigson,
Thank you for your advice. I will have to manage a very small number of lights, all with 3-pin XLR connectors. Will the Showtec NET-2/3 Pocket be sufficient for my setup?
The Enttec ODE will be too expensive for my budget!

Just a note that ENTTEC ODE MK2 was replaced by newer ENTTEC ODE MK3.

And yes Showtec is more than enough for you.

thanks Greg
good to know ! :) there are new features also as POE etc... but the price got an "enhancement" also !! :((

Hello Eric
I never used the Showtec personally, but I know that it is a good tool as I know about several satisfied users of this Node... so I think, for this price it's a good-to-go-deal... :)
